Review
Bringing the hit tv series to the comics world, My Adventures with Superman #2 chronicles the adventures of Superman, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen between seasons 1 and 2 of the My Adventures with Superman series. The super trio is set on rescuing a new Parasite robot that was captured by the US government. However, with the building guarded against Kryptonians, the man of steel must go in undercover as Clark Kent. Can the trio save the emotional AI? Written by the head writer of the My Adventures with Superman tv series, Josie Campbell, and drawn by Pablo M. Collar, this issue is full of fun, heart, and an anime version of Slade Wilson.
My Adventures with Superman #2 continues to charm with its delightful blend of humor, heart, and classic superhero action. Josie Campbell’s writing shines as she effortlessly weaves together the everyday struggles of young professionals with the larger-than-life adventures of Superman. The issue is paced exceptionally well, balancing quieter character moments with bursts of thrilling action. One of the standouts for this issue is the characterization of Clark Kent as an awkward but determined hero. Campbell excels at humanizing Superman, making him relatable despite his god-like abilities. Another one of the highlights of this series is the chemistry between Clark, Lois, and Jimmy. Their banter feels natural and adds layers to their relationships, making them more than just coworkers. Lois Lane, in particular, shines as a sharp-witted journalist and army brat who isn’t afraid to take risks. This series is bringing the heart and whimsy that is essential to Superman. Campbell is doing an exceptional job at writing the core values of Superman while keeping the plot interesting.
Artist Pablo M. Collar brings Campbell’s script to life with vibrant and dynamic artwork. The characters are expressive, and the action sequences are visually captivating. The panel layouts flow smoothly, enhancing both the emotional beats and the adrenaline-pumping scenes. The art in this issue is more anime-inspired than in the first issue and this is especially true for the design of Slade. He’s drawn like a generic cute anime character, which I think is effective in bringing the whimsy to this story. The anime-inspired arty style and heartfelt writing feels like a fresh and revolutionary take on Superman stories.
Filled with heart, charm, and humor, this new comic series is the perfect addition to the My Adventures with Superman tv series. This new series feels exactly like the tv show and will make you fall in love with these characters all over again.
Final Thoughts
Overall, My Adventures with Superman #2 is a delightful continuation of the series that will appeal to both longtime Superman fans and new readers alike. It successfully blends superhero spectacle with heartfelt character moments, promising an exciting journey ahead for Clark Kent and friends.
