Review
It’s the final issue of the My Adventure with Superman miniseries and you will need tissues for this one. Written by the head writer of the My Adventures with Superman TV series, Josie Campbell, and drawn by Pablo M. Collar, My Adventures with Superman #6 is the emotional finale of the story that takes place between Season 1 and 2 of the TV show. Superman and the Amazo robot have faced off against the ruthless Task Force X and Team 7. However, the Amazo has started to absorb everything around him, risking destroying himself and Metropolis. Can the Amazo be more than he was meant to be? This issue is full of heart, emotional moments, and incredible action.
Josie Campbell is not holding back on the emotion in this miniseries and this issue in particular tugs at the heartstrings. The relationship that Superman and Amazo have developed throughout this miniseries shines and results in raw, heartfelt moments that will resonate long after you finish reading. Certain lines are just a knife to the heart. The struggles and triumphs of Amazo are so deeply felt and seeing Superman set on showing this android that he belongs and deserves to be saved is transcendent. It really shows why Superman stories are so impactful and full of heart. Campbell really understands who Superman is and the way the Kents have played a massive role in making him human and the meaning of family.
I couldn’t place my finger on why I have enjoyed this miniseries so much, aside from the amazing creative team, but it’s because the plot is similar to the movie The Iron Giant. A robot set on being more than he was made to be is something I find so beautiful and relatable and it reflects Superman’s own struggles so beautifully. The parallels drawn between Superman and Amazo are perfectly paced and allude to the need to care for and save yourself. This issue is emotional, and beautiful, and shows why we need Superman stories.
Artist Pablo M. Collar adds to the emotion in this issue with his anime-inspired art. Collar makes the reader hurt for Amazo by giving him human facial expressions, and you can feel his pain. The Kents, Superman, Lois, and Jimmy also show so much worry and sadness on their faces, it’s gut-wrenching. The action in this issue is elevated by Collar’s art, with dynamic poses and stunning laser blasts. I think my only complaint is that Task Force X and Team 7 look too similar. During the action sequences, it was hard to tell who was who, and some of the mech-suit designs looked like the Amazo. Despite this, this issue is grand and beautiful just like a finale should be.
This miniseries as a whole has been incredibly enjoyable and a perfect addition to the TV series. It has been an unforgettable journey from start to finish, blending heart-pounding action, genuine humor, and deeply emotional moments that leave a lasting impact. Every page has been a testament to the growth and evolution of its characters, each one navigating their own personal struggles while delivering unforgettable, dynamic moments. From intense battles to moments of quiet reflection, it’s a masterclass in storytelling that balances thrills with heart. With its perfect mix of excitement, emotion, and sharp character development, this series has truly been a standout.
Final Thoughts
This is how you write a finale to a miniseries. This issue is filled with heart, emotional beats, and action and this new comic series is the perfect addition to the My Adventures with Superman TV series. This series continues to feel exactly like the TV show and will make you fall in love with these characters all over again.
