NIGHT WOLF #5
Snow Paw grows impatient with Rodney and his training. As time marches on so does the Dark Covenant as they get stronger, it will be up to Rodney to avenge his friends and family and take up the mantle he was born to wear.
Here we are again with another awesome issue of the Night Wolf series. If comics were currency Night Wolf would gold bouillon. If you’ve read my other reviews for Night Wolf, it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the series and its creative team.
Night Wolf #5 as with previous offerings of the series is packed with solid writing backed up by great art with hues that change smartly with the dialogue. Carlos Herrera and Gat Melvyn continue to be a magnificent team, those familiar with this series know exactly what I’m talking about. Issue 5 picks up with Rodney and Snow Paw back at his house gathering last-minute items so they can beat feet out of town, however, they both have different reasons for leaving. Rodney is still dealing with his newfound life and rightly so. His only goal is to get to Jen as fast as he can. Snow Paw has other plans. Now in keeping the review spoiler-free I won’t get too deep into Rodney’s training but rest assured that with his new knowledge and abilities, I cannot wait to see his full transformation. The panels in which Snow Paw is giving Rodney the history lesson (if you will) I must say Carlos Herrera and Gat Melvyn shine brightly in these panels. They’re gorgeous.
We can’t forget Lord Malice and his own plans that may or not be in jeopardy due to his own primadonna ways. This is the norm for the bad dudes; it never works out when your first name is Lord. We spend some time with the Dark Covenant and get an update on what’s going on with them, and I must say I’m wondering if some “dark times” are ahead for them.
Rob Multari does a great job in setting the perfect traps for speculation on what’s in store in upcoming issues so much so that it fills the reader with an exuberant amount of joyful rage because we have to wait until the next campaign comes around to find out what’s gonna happen next. That is one of the great things about this series; you are embarking on a journey so brilliant and fascinating that you crave more and when a comic can transform and transcend you, that’s when you know you’ve stumbled onto something great. Night Wolf #5 is marvelously detailed storytelling. An engrossing tale loaded with fast-paced action and great characters to fall in love with. Night Wolf #5 will keep readers riveted until the very last panel.
This was such an enjoyable read, this type of story is right in my wheelhouse and I love it when folks find new ways to tell familiar tales. It keeps readers entertained, it invites new readers, more importantly, it keeps the genre thriving. Night Wolf is worth every minute of your time.
