It’s movie night with Gray, and Vince is taking the long way home. And there’s only one way back…through the mysterious woods. Now, all that waits for him is blood, teeth, and vintage cola. Stay outta the woods, lover boy.

Review

Nights #2 continues the weird and wild saga of an alternate reality where Florida is home of all things supernatural. Where issue 1 established the world, this follow up issue reveals the dangers that lurk at night.

This series is thematically a coming of age story in a world where there are few limits to what supernatural entities can exist among the average human being. This issue spends much of its time following Vince as he stumbles upon an adorable talking mole.

It’s an outlandish concept, but that is what works for this series from writer Wyatt Kennedy. Plot-wise, issue 1 did little to establish a major conflict but issue 2 dives right into the horrors that exist in Vince’s world. It’s a great move as it keeps the series fresh and definitely keeps readers on their toes.

The art from Luigi Formisano and colors from Francesco Segala make their strong return and the change of locations in this issue give them a range to showcase their talents.

Issue 1 was definitely a larger kick off issue, but this follow up is more than 20 pages shorter. Personally, as long as the story makes sense, the shifting of page length isn’t a problem and Kennedy’s world is enjoyable and creative.

Final Thoughts

For those who haven’t checked out this series, it’s a great indie title and I’m glad to see the second issue entertaining. Fans of the first issue will appreciate how characters are having their backstories fleshed out and Vince’s cute little friend.
