Review

Nightwing #110 is a fast-paced issue putting Jon Kent and Dick Grayson as collaborators on a mission to rescue Damian Wayne. While it’s not the strongest issue, it still manages to be entertaining.

A mysterious figure has turned up in the DC universe and making people into the animals. The latest in the spree of changes is Damian Wayne who is captured and currently a cat-like hybrid.

Much of the issue is Nightwing and Superman working together and it’s great to see them as a team, however, some readers who were fans of the Super Sons series may feel saddened how it’s Jon and Dick working together versus Jon and Damian. It’s a minor element but may stand out for some fans.

Writing the issue is Tom Taylor and the story and dialogue aren’t the strongest. From a plot perspective, there is little to no details on what is happening. Luckily it’s easy to piece together what is happening, but a few line of dialogue would have helped with the experience. On the topic of dialogue, the “voice” of different characters continues to be blurred as mentioned in previous reviews. It isn’t just that everyone has the same tone, but the distinction takes away from what should be an intense rescue mission story.

The art continues to be fantastic and the action pieces are well done. The entire creative team puts together a fun visual experience with Sami Basri (artist), Vicente Cifuentes (inks), Adriano Lucas (colors), and Bruno Redondo (cover art) working well together. A highlight of the issue isn’t just the animal-hybrid design, but the “meme” cover from Bruno Redondo. The cover alone is working picking up this issue from stands.

Final Thoughts

A little more exposition could have helped the overall experience, but readers will still be able to enjoy the issue. Don’t expect anything mind blowing though as this series is beginning to need work in its tone.
