Recap

You’ve seen the calm… now it’s time for the storm. Having unearthed a shocking revelation, Val must prepare for battle before she loses the paradise that she’s risked so much to find.

Review

This story gives a great spin to the end times apocalypse that is common in zombie and pandemic stories.  We continue to see the positive relationship of the three protagonists. Em is truly concerned for Bailey or should I call her Piper now, when the human shades break free to attack everything standing. Val even calls her Sundog Convoy now, she has a call sign and a team and that is great to see.

I like the voice overs of Val as she continues to take us through her life from her surgery to the fall of the haven where Val and Em were after their parents turned into shades.  Which leads to the art of these sequences and the present battle at Lux.  The Shades are brutal.  The art is graphic but not overly graphic.  There are  dismemberments of various minor characters but I find the art appropriate for the story being told. I would not recommend this for younger readers but for the more mature this is not nightmare fodder.

I do find it appropriate that Gus himself was behind the end of his traitorous brother.  After all, he hired Bill to kill him and Bailey.  I think that Bailey will be just fine as she has a new family with Val and Em.  We even get the great scene in the conclusion where we see Bea Bellwether coming to the rescue again.  There is a woman with real heart.

The coloring is awesome.  The dark looks like it is night and the use of the yellows when the lights are turned on almost hurts by eyes when I see it.  It truly looks like a blaring light in the darkness.  That is a great theme on how the darkness is scattered and eliminated by the light.

Final Thoughts

This story continues to grab my attention and I eagerly wait the next installment
