Review
Wooo, baby! After a little break, the sleeper hit of last year, Nottingham is back and it’s gonna blow the door off your local comic book shop! Author David Hazan says “Hold my beer” to all the shocking surprises of the first series, as almost every page has a big reveal, a big shock, or a big surprise on it, and sometimes it’s all three on the same page. Following immediately after the last issue’s story this issue presents a brand new villain who’s absolutely ruthless-and keep in mind this is a book where the ruthless villains are the good guys-and sets into motion a series of events that you will have to see to believe. Hazan gives us a few surprise returning characters, some new characters, but at the heart and soul of the story are the characters who’ve been with us since issue #1 and they are so bold, so exciting, so fresh, and yet so familiar that you’re really going to be hooked from the first page. Fortunately, every page that follows will keep you hooked.
Welcome back to artist Shane Connery Volk!! So, while we were away, Volk upped his game a little and now draws some really great-looking women who blend in perfectly with the rest of this book. But it was not at the expense of his uncanny ability to draw violent action, as well as characters that are almost literally evil incarnate. Volk seems to really roll up his sleeves on this issue and dive hip-deep into the pages because I haven’t seen a book this immersive in quite a long time. Yes it’s violent, yes it’s gross, but Volk never crosses the line into over-the-top gratuitousness. Try a little harder next time, buddy.
Final Thoughts
A triumphant return for this book that your parents wouldn't approve of! The whole creative team has really hit its stride here, and thankfully they don't show any signs of stopping to take a breath, and you'll have trouble catching yours.
