Review

There are two goals of Free Comic Book Day. The first is obviously to get new people reading comics. If even one person that doesn’t normally read comics becomes a comics fan then the industry has done its job. The second almost always overlooked goal is to get people to read comics that they’ve never read before. With that in mind, you need to grab the Nottingham Free Comic Book Day issue. Author David Hazan writes a fantastic tale that’s enjoyable to new readers and long-time fans alike. We get a “between the panels” complete story that’s moving,  powerful, and contains some pretty big events for those that have been with the book since issue one. The writing is just one of the ingredients that makes this title great, and this issue is just like the rest: it’s packed with emotion, action, and a good amount of jaw-dropping surprises, as only Hazan can deliver. In just this one story he introduces the reader to the world of Nottingham, eases them into a page-turning adventure, and then hits them in the face with a Mac truck.

Artist Andrea Mutti gives this issue that’s different from the series, but it works for the title on a whole nother level. The artist team gives this story an almost soft look and pallet, and it brings out a whole different perspective than you normally have while reading this series. It’s every bit as enjoyable and thrilling while keeping the sense of suspense that makes this series so addictive.

This Free Comic Book Day you’ve got hundreds of options and I want you to get as many comics as you can, just make sure that one of them is Nottingham

NOTE-This title is just for the big kids. If you’re under 17, read some of the other articles right here on Comic Watch to see what other books might interest you!

Final Thoughts

A perfect place to dip your toe in the deep, cool waters that is Nottingham. If you're a fan of action-filled, intense storytelling, then this book is for you. If you're a longtime reader of this title, this issue is a home run!!
