Old Man Quill #3: Paste Pot Creek

Elephant in the room, it’s really annoying that this series hasn’t taken the cosmic angle everyone had hoped, but somehow it still manages to be an entertaining read considering it’s the fourth spinoff of a series that realistically required no sequels, prequels or continuations. Now that the old man universe has branched into all 3 it should be poor and unrecognizable, but the spirit pervades and this series succeeds in the face of adversity. Ethan Sacks has managed something few series have before.

Series expectations aside this series has managed to be consistently entertaining at all turns, funny but not goofy, action packed yet not a slugfest, the balance is well struck and the series is a blast. As in the original series almost every page bleeds Marvel canon from old time villains down to little things like Paste Pot Creek elicit chuckles and smiles. This is a fun series.

The art by Robert Gill continues to be a bit stylized, but it’s growing on me. I really like the way he plots action scenes and several characters look gritty and excellent, I’m still not totally onboard with the way he draws Starlord but hardly anything to drop the book over.
