Review

Created and illustrated entirely by Christine Larsen, ORCS! has an obvious personal touch from the engaging character design, soft colours and hand-written lettering ORCS! feels special in it’s own unique way to titles you may used to picking up.

Obviously, coming from Boom Studios! very own Kaboom! label, the book is marketed at children and young adults but that doesn’t stop those who are kids at heart from enjoying the humorous action packed fantasy adventure.

Think family friendly Rat Queens (Image Comics) in which Orcs, often portrayed as dumb and wicked creatures, are our lovable would-be heroes.

Larsen’s writing is clean and precise making the book an easy read for it’s target audience but not so simple that it would be lost on older readers. The art is simply adorable with so much time spent developing the individuality of the stories protagonist making each one of them pop.

If someone in your family is a fan of Netflix shows such as She-Ra and Troll Hunters this comic is definitely for them and highly recommended for someone who might have never read a comic book before.

Final Thoughts

Overall, ORCS! is a super fun book and just the right level of silly humour and adventure we need in these trying times. If you're a fan of orcs and sick of those pesky elves taking the spotlight then this is for you.
