This week in the Kickstarter Korner we feature a variety of campaigns from sci-fi/dark fantasy to a lovable sentient space-taco who rocks out across the universe. With many indie creator projects out there here are a few that caught our attention:

Dagger Dagger by Matt Emmons
Volume 2 of the sci-fi/dark fantasy comic magazine anthology.
What is Dagger Dagger? It’s a pulpy, magazine size (8″x10″) curated comics anthology featuring 150+ Pages of Dark Fantasy/Sci-fi comics goodness brought to you by: Matt Emmons & Andriy Lukin • Kry García • Nicole Goux • Sloane Hong • Liana Kangas • Christine Larsen • Dan McDaid • Molly Mendoza & Sage Howard • Nadhir Nor • Troy Nixey & Lonnie Nadler • Michael Talbot • Letty Wilson.
Microscopic #1 by Keith Champagne and Raffaele Forte
From the pages of Heavy Metal magazine comes a 32-page sci-fi adventure.
Duncan and Elizabeth Small have recently reached the 20th anniversary of their marriage. To their scientific peers, they’re two of the world’s leading nano-technologists: both charming and charismatic, brilliant and imaginative. Two once-in-a-lifetime minds, they’re a husband and wife team that have worked tirelessly to invent something that will improve the world around us. A technology that will enable the human consciousness to explore the Underverse and its infinite teeming life forms… And secrets. Except behind closed doors, Duncan and Liz have come to despise one another.
Mum Moments 2: A Comic Book by Emma LaHood
A colorful comic book to help sleep-deprived parents find humour in the clumsy thoughts and realizations of parenthood.
This book is 100 colour pages about finding yourself pulled between your own needs and between two kids under five. Each page is a standalone idea, but the culmination paints the progressive picture of this stage of parenthood. What I love most about this work is the way it connects people within a time of disconnect, sleep deprivation, information overload, isolation, and big responsibility — in other words: growing a new human. This is a memorial of a time shared, not yet comprehended. Yet when it is shared, with any parent, grand or new, I get chuckles of recognition and resonance.
Something Like Summer by Jay Bell
LGBT romance comics about beautiful men and the love they feel for each other.
Something Like Summer reaches its dramatic conclusion in our third volume of romance-powered gay comics! In the first volume, high school student Benjamin Bentley went on a quest for love, only to have his heart put through the wringer by hunky Tim Wyman. Then in volume two, Ben moved away to start a new life in college where he met Jace, a truly incredible guy with a kind heart. Now, in this final installment, Ben will face his biggest challenge yet. Tim is back! And he’s even more handsome and mysterious than before. To make matters worse, Jace is distracted, still reeling from the loss of someone special to him. Ben will have to tread a thin line if he wants to reach his happily-ever-after and finally win the love he’s always yearned for. But how can he possibly choose when both guys are so dang wonderful?
We Can Funk by Fair Square Comics
A graphic journey in2 Funk Music from James Brown to Prince!
Funk is a major musical genre that spawned over five decades. There are books but no graphic novels covering this genre. WE CAN FUNK: A Graphic journey in2 Funkdom aims at filling that void by offering short stories starring the major artists that made this music timeless and unforgettable. 12 stories about 12 legendary acts. From Prince 2 James Brown, Rick James 2 George Clinton or Teena Marie 2 name a few. Brought to U by the team who created the critically acclaimed Kickstarter hit NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK, this new graphic novel is going 2 make History! Spearheaded by our ambassador Jellybean Johnson (original member of THE TIME and THE FAMILY/F-DELUXE, drummer and guitar player, co-founder of the MPLS Sound Museum), WE CAN FUNK includes stories about the finest musicians ever born.
Zombie Cat Invasion by Yiran Park
A 350-page graphic novel about zombies, cats, aliens, and the secret of the universe.
Zombie Cat Invasion is a graphic novel about a guy-next-door named Jin Woo Lim and his cat Tiger that turned into a zombie from an artificial virus created by mysterious cat aliens from outer space. I started creating this graphic novel in 2017. It’s a 350-page graphic novel featuring chaotic stories about two guys, Jin Woo and Andrew; Daisy, the bestest Labrador Retriever; and Tiger, the American short-hair zombie cat. (And there’s the cat alien princess Moya and her crews with their evil plans.) This book is full of fun narratives and interesting characters.
PUNK TACO Vol. 2 by Adam & Makana Wallenta
PUNK TACO is a lovable sentient space-taco who rocks out across the universe with his band of misfits, fighting evil and helping those in need. Punk Taco believes in peace and love but has no tolerance for bullies and tyrants, so when he sees an injustice, he can’t resist helping and joining in the fight.
Created by Adam Wallenta and his son Makana, the first volume of the series landed the Wallenta’s the 2019 Ringo Award Winner for “Best Kids Comic or Graphic Novel.” Punk Taco and the band were on their way to a gig when we last saw them in the Volume 1 Epilogue, when a giant hand reached through a mysterious portal and whisked them away. Volume 2 picks up immediately after that and thrusts our hero and his friends into a dangerous new adventure to save a planet endangered by a greedy syndicate that is mining not just the resources, but also the very life essence of the planet itself. Punk Taco must join forces with a coalition of local inhabitants to prevent an environmental disaster, but the problem is, they are the size of ants compared to the giant that threatens their planet. What’s a taco to do?
Check out the Kickstarter and official PUNK TACO Theme song. Written and Produced by Adam Wallenta and ICBM. Performed by ILLUS and RoXXXteady.
REE-Prints by Cartoonist Emily Ree
Emily Ree is the writer and artist for 2 graphic novel series, Anarchy Dreamers and Marshmallow Horns, creator of zines, like Pand[emi]c Sketch, and merchandise designer for a bunch patches, enamel pins, and stickers!
The concept of the Ree_Print campaign is simple; for the Kickstarter she re-printing her entire library of graphic novels and zines! A veteran crowdfunder and indie creator, she usually travels across the country doing shows, meeting readers, and selling books, but the pandemic sort of put the breaks on her usual convention schedule, but things are starting to pick up again! I have 5 graphic novels and 3 zines that I’m excited to get into reader’s hands! The books include Anarchy Dreamers Volumes 1, 2, and 2.5, Marshmallow Horns Volume 1 and 2, Pand[emi]c Sketch, and a variety of sketchbook and comic zines!
Check out the Kickstarter page for all the details and rewards.
