Peacemaker Tries Hard! #5
What does the Brain’s master plan have to do with…the Red Bee?! As it turns out, Richard’s tragic past provides him with the strength his old bones need to defend Peacemaker and help him rescue Bruce Wayne (the dog, not the billionaire, remember)!
Ever wondered how many babies Peacemaker can fight? Look no further than Peacemaker Tries Hard #5! This issue keeps the laughs going and is still as entertaining as ever. While the action may be (slightly) toned down, there is still enough absurdity to make it worth picking up at your LCS for a great read!
Last issue, the Red Bee offered to help Peacemaker save his dog Bruce Wayne and within a few pages, they are landing into a super secret base filled with Deathstroke cloned babies. While this sounds unbelievably insane, writer Kyle Starks proves time and time again that he can handle making DC fans laugh (and cry) in a fun and wild story.
From the beginning, this series has made hilarious use of popular and forgotten characters in the DC roster while also staying fresh and unsuspecting. This issue does a great job at moving the plot along, however, I can’t help but feel bummed some of the action set pieces weren’t longer. (I want to see Peacemaker take on a ton of henchmen!) However, in true Starks fashion, the comedy of this issue is the core of its strength and so any reduction in action is still balanced with great humor.
This series from the beginning has incorporated DC characters in some wild moments and Continuing the artistic presence is the work of Steve Pugh (art) and Jordie Bellaire (colors). Their combined work and panel design, and rich colors, make for a visual experience in addition to the humor.
There are a lot of comic books on the shelves, but Peacemaker Tries Hard! is for sure one of the few series where I have to pick up and read it on day one. It’s fun, awesome, and seriously funny. Issue 5 does a fantastic job at keeping up the standard and for those of you following this series, you won’t regret picking this up!
