A woman in blond hair gets her coffee, as a tall slender man looks over as she stirs her coffee notices a spider tattoo. The woman is Pearl, the man is Rick.

Rick recognizes the spider tattoo, walks up to Pearl asking if he can see. Pearl asks Rick if he knows what it is before she could ask more question, Rick expresses his shock "Is that an Iriguci?" Pearl confirms that it was. Rick fires off questions about the artist; if he talked much? How did this event happen? Rick could hardly contain his excitement as Pearl appears more calm and nonchalant about the ordeal. Informing Rick that Iriguci didn't even ask her name, didn't talk much, just tattooed her and it was free. Pearl simply describes the day as being strange. The two start walking away from each other and back to their friends.

"oh my god, I'm going to die!" says Kim. Pearl not paying attention to her over dramatic expression over french fries. Pearl still looking towards Rick and his friends. Pearl recalls what she had told Kim about the first boy who knows what the tattoo is. Pearl heads towards Rick and his group with Kim following while preoccupied with her fries. Ricks shows his friends who appear to be less impressed with the spider tattoo. Pearl asks how Rick knows Iriguci, He doesn't respond directly instead asks for her number. She brings back the topic, where he gives a redirectable response "I'm a tattoo artist." He lifts one of his friend's shirts showing her a colorful dragon tattoo." Pearl tells Kim that it is time to go. As they walk away, Kim seems surprised encouraging Pearl to "Lock that shit down girl." As they continue on their path they hear a motorcycle rev their engines. Much to their dismay, it was three motorcycles followed by semi-automatic gunfire. Series of shots go off, Pearl pulls out her handgun. A standoff between Rick, Pearl and one of the masked motorcycle gunmen. A semi-automatic shot goes off followed by a handgun. Pearl is hit as well as the motorcycle gunman.

Pearl is seen drawing, as an older man known as Mr. Kai appears behind her. She explains her shoulder is fine. He says no he was not talking about her shoulder but the gun. He explains if you shoot a man, you get rid of a gun.

"Not this gun Mr. Kai."

The gun was from her father, given to her when she was 14 years old. Her father explained that the boys will be coming for her, it will not stop. If a man touches you where they shouldn't, you aim for their dick. You pull the trigger until it's out of bullets. Continues to instruct her that she does not call the police but calls him.

"Is Mr. Mike Upset?" Pearl inquires about the shootout. She was informed that he was not upset about the shooting but that she did not call him. Mr. Mike was unaware of her abilities to shoot. Mr. Kai informs her that Pearl may have just started a war.

Pearl appears at Mr. Mike home. Mr. Mike tells her she is not in trouble, he loves Pearl's work. He shows her back tattoo, asking for a retouch. He informs her that she will not be tattooing to repay for the shootout. Mr. Mike informed Pearl, that she has the names of the men from last night, she is ordered to take them out. Pearl shocked at her new job, stating she cannot do the task. He did not reply kindly, he grabs her by the throat slamming her against a wall. Grabs the tattoo gun, first placing it to her face, moves down and takes the needle to her fresh gunshot wound. She screams in pain and reluctantly agrees.

Pearl is back home, asking for Kim to call her as the doorbell rings. Rick shows up finding Pearl. Pearl asks how he found her. A girl walking around with a million dollar tattoo isn't hard to find. Rick thanks her for saving him Pearl looks at him silently as the story is to be continued.

Review

The book was set up perfectly. It introduced the main players right away. There wasn’t a long backstory to how they end up at a food court. It was very this is where we are, this is what is happening. The only backstory was about her father giving her the gun, which was perfect. It seems to be setting up more of the story, also creating ideas in the readers head of what MIGHT be happening or had happened in the past.

The Art is amazing captures the mafia crime war feeling. It starts off with young adults at a food court flirting to holy crap there is a major shootout, to this underground mafia scene. The first book leaves a lot of questions and leaves the reader wanting to know more.

Final Thoughts

I believe my score is 10/10. I honestly can not think of a possible bad thing to say about it. I loved the Art. The ART may be a little dark for some people, but personally, I loved it.

The storytelling was amazing, I am hooked, I cannot wait for the next issue. I need to know what is going to happen with Pearl and Rick. She was just told that she has to kill him, yet she believes they are meant to be together.

Writing I was hooked since the first page. As someone who is heavily tattooed and love the tattoo shop culture I love that it is included in this book, it is so rare that you see in a comic book.
