Recap

Seventeen-year-old Pearl was taken to a strip club, that she didn't want to go too. Oscar wanted to go, not because he wanted her to experience something new, but because Pearl was able to get free stuff. Long story short, Pearl kills Oscar.

Mr. Miike house is crowded, The Endo Twins, Miike, and his personal, Ricky and Pearl. The conversation becomes tense, back and forth continues. Pearl takes the opportunity to exit. Pearl decides to go visit her Dad in prison. He asks why her perfect skin is now covered with tattoos. Only when she is emotional. It's time we find out some answers; Was Pearl's mother a killer for the Yakuza? No, she was their boss. Pearl's dad goes into detail about how she became the head of the Yakuza. The burning question still remains, who killed her. The father did not respond but assured Pearl that it was taken care of.

Pearl heads back to the car were Ricky is waiting for her. She gives him an exit. Pearl understands this is bigger than what she had thought.

Endo twins didn't fare too well in Mr. Miike House, they took two Rumor's brothers fingers. All they have to do is take care of Pearl Tanaka.

Review

This issue ends Book one of Pearl. It was also a major pay off. We all knew that Pearl’s mother was tied in somehow or at least murdered by the Yakuza. However much to our surprise, she was ahead of the Yakuza.

We all knew Pearl wasn’t afraid to shoot someone (See issue 1), but she is just a badass, shooting a handy prick at seventeen.

Ricky’s character is playing backseat, she is kind of like yeah, I like you, but I have to figure this out first, gives him a way out. He was like “Nah its cool.” I am sure he will play a much bigger part in the future. I think he may end up turning on her? Who knows.

The war between the Endo Twins and Pearl is starting in the next issue for book two, I am sold, cannot wait to see how this works out!

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a break in the superhero department, this book is for you. It's not a fast pace, it's drama with a little bit of action. This book really is perfect for the book that it is.

Gaydos does amazing artwork, it's different than anything else DC Comics has right now. The book itself is different, it's new, it's exciting. I have nothing bad to say about this series.

Pearl is like nothing I have ever read before, it makes it a gem that everyone should read.
