Review
The Morphinaut has been possessed by Dark Specter, and the only way the Rangers know how to stop him? Crossing the streams Breaking the morphers! I’m afraid I wasn’t a huge fan of this final issue of the mini-series. There’s a lot of potential in exploring this time period, as well as the Phantom Ranger and Dark Specter, but almost none of it hit for me.
I did really enjoy seeing the creation of the Ranger Emissaries. We know from the present day stories that only three Emissaries are left (well, less even now), so seeing the Pink, Black, and Green Emissaries was a real highlight of the issue. I did find it strange that the Pink Ranger seemed to take center stage in this issue when we haven’t really seen much of her previously. And I have so many questions about the Pink and Blue Rangers’ helmeted kiss.
The art by Simone Ragazzoni has been steadily growing on me, and there’s a fantastic two-page spread of several different incarnations of Rangers that really stood out to me. However, a lot of the action moments felt rushed and messy, and I had a lot of trouble following along, a criticism I had of previous issues.
Final Thoughts
Unfortunately, this mini-series does not live up to its premise. The Phantom Ranger is barely a guest star here, and the story wraps up far too quickly to leave a satisfying taste in my mouth.
