Recap

Vexed by a powerful evil Loa and Azaire Agguilard, a literal magical black hole in parasitic human form and not to mention his waves of blood thirsty magically enhanced cronies, to say things ain't been smooth sailing for Punk Mambo and her new homie Josef is a major understatement. However this issue sees her reminding everyone just why she's THE Punk Mambo and not to be trifled with....also totally some sex magic.

Review

Cullen Bunn gets right to it with this one. Revealing Azaire’s insane masterplan and Mambo is flexing some serious arcane might pretty much setting the stage for one wild showdown. This mini so far has done an excellent job of providing just the right amount of dark humor and characterization to make up for the slowed down pace the last couple issues in comparison to #1. #4 swings the pendulum the other way with perfect timing.

If you weren’t sure before there’s no doubt about it now that Punk vs Azaire is gonna be bloody, trippy and everything you’ve been waiting for since this series started.

Final Thoughts

Simply put, Cullen Bunn and Adam Gorham have just raised the bar yet again for what promises to be the gold standard for Punk Mambo stories. When tackling new territory like this, knocking out the kinda book all future runs will get side-eyed and measured against is basically as good as it gets and the homies here have done that and then some.
