Purgatori #1: What Are You?

The art in this story is very appropriate for this type of tale.  The art has a realistic but definitely a supernatural feel.  The coloring of of the mystical weapon used by Sara to fight the monks gives this device a supernatural and electrical feel.  It truly looks powerful and that power just pops from the blade.

I like the coloration of Purgatori herself.  I like the darker brownish red tone to her skin and to add that to the bat wings she constantly shows and the black bikini give this character a much different look than her closest analog in Vampirella who does not appear in this issue.

The art is very detailed.  The slaughter at the monastery is very graphic as it should be.  The fight is brutal and I like it that the monks put up a valiant fight in their own right.

This story picks up where the Vampirella Vs Purgatori miniseries ends off.  Purgatori is trying to deal with the spell Lilith cast on her and to do that she does what I find interesting given the brutal strength of this character.  She goes into meditation.  This gives Purgatori a thoughtful quality which I can totally get behind.

From what I can understand and this is only the first issue it looks like Sara was sacrificed to Purgatori.  The sisters seem to know that Sara was attacked and they planned this, perhaps they even wanted it.  This begs the question as to who these women are and what do they have to do with Purgatori.  They know about her and what she has been through as well as her usual habits.  They use this knowledge to get to Purgatori and they send her to Norway.  Was this an accident or a part of the plan?
