Review
Red Sonja #15 has all the charm and appeal of the previous issue while adding more substance. We see Sonja explore her new role and her new world as she bemoans for bygone times and longs for the day when she was just a simple warrior. We see more of the kingdom of Khitai, a Kingdom ruled by a bloodthirsty idiot who seems intent on being Sonja’s foil, and how its people live under the rule of their king. I enjoyed seeing a younger Sonja cut her teeth in battle and found myself genuinely laughing at some of the back and forth between Sonja and her friends and enemies. If I had one gripe about the story, it would be that we didn’t get more B plot from Hyrkania. The side story in the last issue was one of my favorite parts and I’d love to see it share the spotlight with Sonja and her adventures a little more.
Story wise it was as engaging as ever. Sonja’s tale is well written and easy to be captivated by. I cant wait to see the next issue and see what sort of adventures Sonja’s new post leads her into. The artwork brings a great deal of color to a world that could be very gray and the color pallet is often full but rarely overwhelming. The cover is eye-catching though it may make readers unsure of what to expect in this issue.
Final Thoughts
Red Sonja #15 is an outstanding gateway to an exciting tale to come.
