Review
Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #3 picks up with Mitch Shelley’s journey to save the universe with the introduction of Vandal Savage. Ram V and Anand RK continue their journey of discovery and questioning reality as the morality of this journey starts to hit Mitch in ways that he never thought possible. All the while, the book itself continues to propose a metatextual discussion surrounding the consequences of Mitch’s actions, all while events occur in the background that seem to be unraveling the journey itself unbeknownst to the heroes.
For those unfamiliar with Resurrection Man as a character, this series has done an excellent job of piecing together his backstory and origins through ways that directly impact the events occurring in each issue. This makes the history lesson feel less like homework and more like a genuine part of the story. All the while, this leaves opportunities for readers to go back and read the original Resurrection Man series to learn more about events of the past without making it necessarily essential for the enjoyment of this series.
The big event in this issue is the arrival of Vandal Savage who essentially acts as a chaos agent for Mitch’s cosmic journey. It doesn’t seem like his character is meant to stick around as a primary antagonist, but he does represent a lot of the chaos in Mitch’s life, which is where the origins of Resurrection Man start to impact this story. This all leads to one of the best action sequences of the series thus far, with Anand RK doing an excellent job of enfusing his unique style with that of a more traditional comic book action sequence, continuing to make this series feel unique and original.
The heart of the story continues to surround that moral quandary of whether the ends justify the means, all with theories like The Butterfly Effect informing almost every action. With this series only being three issues in, there is a constant feeling of dread throughout the plot as Mitch continues to act towards a common goal all while changing reality and unintentionally creating enemies in the background. This all is part of that original premise of “what would you do if you could redo any event in your life?” There is so much at play here that genuinely makes each segment so thought provoking, creating a must read series.
Final Thoughts
Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #3 is a thought provoking exploration of the consequences of reality and the actions we all take.
