Review

Unfortunately for me I was a month behind on Savage Avengers. It’s unfortunate because these two issues have been the best of the series so far! Issue three and four have everything you could want from a superhero comic!

David Pepose once again proves that he is a fan of these characters, as well as a talented writer. Issue three demonstrates how smart and strategic Daredevil is, and how (once again) she is working up to be a leader for this team! David writes these characters in such a way that it’s clear he knows their history, while also growing their powers in such a smooth and real way. Dagger’s powers especially represent this as she continues to bend light in new and exciting ways. As a huge fan of Cloak and Dagger (for my whole life pretty much) I’m so glad to see Dagger has places to go and grow!

The art from Carlos Magno continues to be a huge draw for this series, even his work alone keeps me coming back and rereading each issue over and over. Issue three is full of fight scenes and planning scenes and each one is drawn so excellently! I’m particularly fond of one of the opening pages, showing the whole team next to one another! It does a good job of showing all the members and giving off powerful vibes!

Issue four is hands down my favorite issue so far! David clearly had fun with this one, as this issue is full of great moments and Easter eggs. I really don’t want to say much as this issue has twist after twist, but David does a great job explaining the new origin of this Deathlok, as well as adding some personal character growth for Weapon H, Black Knight and Dagger! David is building a love triangle between Cloak, Dagger and Agent Anti-Venom. While it does seem a bit rushed at times, it still is very fitting with the fast paced action of this series. I personally can’t wait to see where that goes.

Carlos matches David’s passion in these issues perfectly! We get some beautiful designs for characters, including a light armor for Dagger (which I hope we will see more of) and we even get to see him draw some classic characters! But no spoilers on who! You need to read this to find out!

This issue has the biggest ending and cut off so far, and it has so many oh my god moments, you have to read this! This issue will really change this team forever!

Final Thoughts

Issue three and four are some of the best issues in comics today. The amount of heart that goes into these issues from both David and Carlos is clear! If you love comics, superheroes or fun easter eggs to movies like Into The Spiderverse, pick up these issues! I can't wait for more Savage Avengers! Issue 3 is out now, and issue 4 comes out this week!
