Recap

FAMILY MATTERS! Wanda's loyalties are tested when an enemy of the Kree/Skrull Empire falls through the Last Door desperate for help avenging their fallen comrades. Will Wanda honor the commitment she made to helping those in need - whoever they are - or will her love for her son Wiccan and his husband, Hulkling, triumph over all? PLUS: A familiar figure appears at Wanda's shop…and it seems rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated. But does he come as friend or foe?

Review

Scarlet Witch #6 was a fun ride that wasn’t about Billy and Teddy or the Alliance but about another rogue Skrull fringe sect. But this is understandable; this is the Wanda show, and what readers get is adorable. I don’t think more development is needed to delve just a smidge deeper into how Wanda fits into Billy’s life, despite having amazing biological parents.

Ganymede is yet another individual in need of Wanda’s help. She is a member of a group called the Archsisterhood, which is sometimes, by their enemies, referred to as Spinsterhood because they vowed abstinence, as readers do not get the chance to feel the emotional impact of this loss sadly. But there’s really no time for it. Anyway, they were all in hibernation and were murdered by Skrulls. She falls through a portal that puts her at Wanda’s shop, and after some convincing, Wanda gains her trust and takes her to the alliance.

The art is fun, and Wanda’s facial expression at fighting the real villains when they called her weak and helpless was priceless, and I loved every panel of it.

After a brief scuffle, and to keep the focus on Wanda, Teddy temporarily gives her his space Excalibur, and she and Ganymede go after the culprits that murdered her sisters. It would have been cooler to see them fight together. This is a straightforward story that isn’t really about Ganymede. And the brief conflict between Wanda and the alliance is quickly resolved to make way for some adorable bonding between Billy and Wanda later.

The bonding scene is very much appreciated because it reminds audiences that Billy has a mom, a biological mom, that he loves. Where’s the meeting between Wanda and Rebecca Marvel? It’s an excellent bonding moment that helps continue building their relationship in a way that Trial of Magneto could not do.

The essence of who Billy and Teddy are is well preserved. Steve Orlando does a great job reminding readers that just because Billy and Teddy are bigshots in space now, it doesn’t mean they’re not still the unforgettable characters readers know and are always glad when writers remember Billy is Jewish. And we even learned a fun new thing about Billy.

This is just in! New Kree/Skrull fusion restaurant is approaching an alliance ship near you.

The surprise ending of the comic gives pause and makes one want to buy the next issue to see what happens next.

Final Thoughts

If you need Billy and Teddy breadcrumbs and you’ve been loving this series so far, it is absolutely an issue you want to pick up, if you haven’t already.
