Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of Undead #3
Last we saw Sgt. Rock and his team saw the Führers personal doctor Herr Morrel leaving a manufacturing facility. Finally, the perfect opportunity to take down the Führer has presented itself and could end this madness. But how will they get to Morell?
Sgt. Rock and his men have held it together against zombie Nazis this far. But, if they can get ahold of the Führer’s physician, he can lead them to the Führer himself and the serum turning the Nazi soldiers into zombies. The opening pages of this book show Sgt. Rock and his men strategize on how to retrieve Morell. Their plan is solid, and they have new toys to get the job done. It seems killing a Nazi zombie takes a lot of effort and time. Time they don’t have.
Throughout the book, you see the team engaging and blowing up buildings like any good military unit would in enemy territory. No fear, just the responsibility to save the world. I love that about this comic and particularly this team. Regardless of the consequences, captured, tortured, death, whatever, they still do the right thing. No matter what. Some heroes have trouble with that.
Maintaining suspense, Bruce Campbell has given us an action-packed comic that keeps us going. What is truly incredible is we can have a decent Nazi Zombie comic and not get tired of it. I am on the edge of my seat on every page. Enjoying this six-issue series is easy. You don’t have to try. The story, the art, and the color all complement each other. I am almost in Call of Duty, taking out zombies, and I love it.
The DC zombie look is both grotesque and not over the top. I appreciate that it isn’t gory, but you still get the message, and it works well. Eduardo Risso and Kristian Rossi bring the book the life and give the mood and atmosphere of the story in a way that I appreciate.
Job well done for the Sgt. Rock vs. the Undead team. Another great book and I am looking forward to #4. Hopefully, Morell will be caught by then. And maybe Sgt. Rock will have a plan to stop the serum from spreading.
