Recap

The Silencer finds herself in a deadly showdown with a pair of killers—Quietus and Gunn—as well as a giant kaiju monster at a Superman theme park! (No refunds park-goers.) If she can shoot her way out of that trouble, she’ll still have to track down Talia’s body before Leviathan can resurrect her. Of course, them being a secret evil criminal organization and all, they’ll probably have backup plans inside of contingencies wrapped up in their true motivations. At any rate, someone’s getting their soul eaten whether they like it or not!

Review

Silencer #10 wastes no time in picking up right where the last issue left us, with a giant kaiju monster rampaging through Action Land while Silencer and Mr. Quietus were stuck in each other’s body. The freaky Friday switch that encompassed much of the previous issue wasn’t my favorite twist personally, but this issue took it in a wildly different direction that was really satisfying.

The fight with the kaiju quickly feels like it is building up to a single moment. With their options limited, Silencer and Quietus hammer the monster with massive weapons, but it isn’t until Wishbone is brought back and forced to end her magic that the chaos stops. Just as Wishbone relinquishes her body-swap spell, the kaiju destroys Mr. Quietus’s body, sending Silencer back into her own body just in time. It was a great action sequence that did a brilliant job in creating tension through anticipation and helped to make the issue really enjoyable.

The artistic direction in the ‘Hell-iday Road’ arc has been really great overall, but the kaiju monster is undoubtedly the star artistically. His presence makes the issue a spectacle and their fight against him lets the visuals carry the story naturally. Overall, it’s a beautiful issue that blends action and development perfectly, showcasing the talents of the creative team.

With a strong setup for next issue following the intense battle, Silencer #10 proves to be yet another strong entry in the New Age of Heroes series. The creative team is able to carry over the excitement from each issue uniquely well, so even though this issue is truly thrilling, we know there is even more to come. This issue capitalized off of the setup from previous issues, but it also brought in a few new players right at the end with the resurgence of Talia, so it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Final Thoughts

The Silencer #10 is an explosive story that blends action and character development exceptionally well. Although it isn’t particularly complex, it is a fun issue that is sure to entertain.
