Recap

This book is for you for all my Dungeons and Dragons lovers, my fantasy, comedy, and little violence lovers! For those of you who may not know, Skullkickers is a fantasy-comedy comic series published by Image comics, and they have been around for ten years. The books are set up like tabletop role-playing games. You're an Adventurer!

Review

As an RPG gal, I was stoked when I saw this book. I had honestly never heard of it until now. I know I am late to the party. But this book was so good I loved every minute of it. It makes you feel like you are a part of the adventure. As it should since it is the 10th-anniversary one-shot celebration for Skullkickers. This team is incredible.

In the beginning, you open the book to two adventures sitting in a classroom, not just any classroom in any school. The Academy of Serious Sorcery! How awesome that I am not usually a magic user. Typically, I am a thief, a halfling rogue, or a dwarf pirate, but this piqued my interest. Your two adventurers are Rolf and Rex, impersonating students to find something particular.

They, of course, have no clue what it is or where to start. Their points of view are contradictory, and you get that feeling right off the bat. Most people playing these games have contradictive opinions on where to go and what tasks to take. How to accomplish challenges and battles is always an argument. Skullkickers embodies all the love and excitement that goes into any game or campaign!

Writer of Skullkickers Jim Zub is a genius! The number of stories and quests concocted over the last ten years is enormous and should be celebrated as such! Unfortunately, I have never picked up one of these books, but I will from now on! This adventure was funny and engaging and excited me while reading the book. And the artwork pulls you into everything that’s going on. Edwin Huang leaves a youthful appearance while keeping the battle’s depth and intensity immaculate.

I love this book. I don’t have a single negative thing to say. The humor was fantastic; the villains were even good! And when you have great heroes and a great story, most of the time, the villains can be a bit of a letdown. Not if you’re Jim Zub.

Final Thoughts

Skull Killers has a fantastic team; it makes sense that it lasted for ten years. Jim Zub and artist Edwin Huang deliver, and that's all I can say! Get this book and every book from now on. It could be the 3 cups of coffee I've had today, but I don't think so. This work is well done. Here's to ten more years!!
