Sonjaversal #9: Blue Sweet Blue

This issue explores the character of Blue Sonja.  She is a mercenary hit woman with blue hair.  She is a very intelligent and capable woman.  She like her Hibernian counterpart Red Sonja has a love of alcohol and she pays her way though accepting contracts.  Where Red uses a sword, Blue resorts to guns and explosives.

This story is the aftermath of the Sonjaversal battle in Hell where Blue Sonja is dealing with targets she has already eliminated that have mysteriously returned to life.  Where the other multiverses Sonjas have dealt with complete resurrections, Blue’s is a little more grotesque.  The targets in the beginning have resurrected but there resurrections have monstrous results.

I love the design of Blue Sonja.  She is basically a biker chick with long blue hair.  She wears a doo rag as a cap and she carries a 9 mm sidearm.  A lot of times she is depicted as wearing dark sunglasses that I would have loved if they had more mirrored lenses to add to her bad ass look.  In the end we also get a reunion of the other Sonjas from the previous three issues, Purple Sonja, Yellow Sonja, and Noir Sonja.  It looks like these four are going to team up to discover what exactly is going on, I think Hell Sonja is involved.

As usual the main cover is a gorgeous work of art.  It provides a glorious image of Blue Sonja in her complete costume and firing her side arms.  From the image it looks like her sunglasses have mirrors and I would have loved to have seen that in the interior art as well.
