Recap

Hell’s throne has been vacant for far too long.

Review

350 is a pretty substantial number. Not too many publications get to that milestone, especially in the modern age. Especially in the modern comic age. Regardless of your opinion of hell’s favorite occupant, Spawn sits comfortably at the table with the top names and teams that grace the shelves of comic shops around the world. For 350 issues, we have laughed, cried, and bled with Al and Co., and it’s been a delightfully hellish ride.

For the last 250 issues, we have witnessed the battle for the throne of hell and the mystery of who would be its rightful suiter. Well, the time has come. The time has come to acknowledge hell’s new sultan of hellfire and brimstone. The time has come for lapsed readers and new readers alike to hop on the Spawn train and enjoy the ride. One of the standouts in this issue is its ability to be a great stepping stone to the series. Rory McConville has brilliantly written one of the best jump-on points to a series with this sort of longevity. You don’t need to know Al Simmons’ full background, you don’t need to know who Wanda is, Violator, the Clown, Sam & Twitch, etc. McConville has penned a story that showcases the characters without deviating from what the issue is truly about…Hell’s Throne. While Rory McConville is writing hell’s new king, Brett Booth along with Carlo Barberi brings the power struggle for the throne to hellish life.

There has never been a better time to read Spawn than now!

Final Thoughts

When you look back at the past 32 years of Spawn, you see familiar names on multiple issues, and there’s a reason for that. Todd McFarlane has developed a world-class recipe for success, and while there are always going to be tweaks and minor updates one thing has never changed…the foundation. Here’s to 350 more issues.
