Recap

SPAWN KILLS EVERYONE is back in this four-part miniseries! MORE CUTENESS, MORE KILLING, MORE ISSUES!

Review

One issue just wasn’t enough. Baby Spawn is back in with a hilariously gross story filled with wild cameos, adorable artwork and lots of junk food!

We kick off the new mini-series with Baby Spawn gorging on seemingly any food he can get his hands on. The narration that takes us through these scenes helps to introduce the character and adds some humor by reacting to Baby Spawn sporadically. Within the first few pages, the first cameo drops featuring some very interesting references! Blumhouse (the production company spearheading the new Spawn film), Savage Dragon and Venom all get shout-outs as contacts in Baby Spawn’s phone. This was a fun nod while reading, but it really is just the beginning.

Spawn Kills Everyone Too #1 succeeds in bringing in some truly surprising cameos, using them to keep the jokes coming in a fun and lighthearted story. However, considering the title is ‘Spawn Kills Everyone Too’, there is a noticeable lack of killing in the issue. Regardless, the story doesn’t disappoint in delivering a truly crazy experience! We get characters from both Marvel and DC, such as the pharmacist duo ‘Strange Fate’, and multiple references to the highly anticipated new Spawn film. But the real twist comes in the form of an unplanned pregnancy…

In a truly bizarre sequence, Baby Spawn births a hundred literal babies while sitting on the toilet in his bathroom. The babies are tiny egg-shaped Spawns complete with adorable costumes and everything. Seriously. Even Baby Spawn can’t refuse their cuteness! This works so well primarily due to the artistic direction from Will Robson, Greg Menzie and Tom Orzechowski. The characters are polished and interesting, which is fortunate because the story doesn’t really offer the opportunity for grand visuals just yet.

Overall, Spawn Kills Everyone Too #1 succeeds in telling an entertaining story filled with plenty of laughter. It’s an issue that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I appreciate that. Spawn is a title that is often known for its dark and horror-influenced narratives, so this is a unique opportunity for Todd McFarlane to give fans something completely different and show the versatility of the franchise.

It’s a great issue that anyone can pick up and enjoy, so don’t miss out!

Final Thoughts

Spawn Kills Everyone Too #1 a cute and chaotic story filled with unpredictable cameos that succeeds most when not taking itself too seriously. It’s a truly entertaining issue that is perfect for both new and longtime fans!
