Review

This was a great start to a second volume. This issue not only sets up an interesting new story arc but does a great job continuing plot points from the first volume along with art that has improved beautifully since last volume.

While dealing with the aftermath of the events from last volume this issue also introduces an interesting nemesis for Spencer and Locke, complete with his own comic strip styled backstory. This issue had a great gritty, noir feel while doubling down in the comic strip references with the introduction of the deranged Roach Riley and his Beetle Bailey themed flashbacks.

The art in this issue was an improvement in the already great art if the previous series. Greater detail and dark but intense colors in the main story art contrast wonderfully with the brighter colors and more cartoonish styles of the flashbacks, especially in a scene which jumped between a fight scene in the present as well as flashbacks for both Locke and Roach.

This issue maintains and improves upon much of what made the original series and sets up an interesting story with a lot of potential.

Final Thoughts

A great first issue that does well continuing where volume 1 left off and building towards a potentially interesting plot for this volume.
