2018 Mega-Spider event concludes in this epic battle against the Spider-universe and the Inheritors. Some have died, some have been lost, and most have been hurt, but none have given up.
The enigmatic force presents itself to the remaining Spiders. Miles gets a little snappy with the force which apparently is the right thing to do because the force bonds with Miles making him Captain Universe.
The fate of Ben Reilly is also discovered. While the Inheritors ate him, it also gave them food poisoning, which was the plan.
After the Inheritors realize that they were set up, the battle begins. The battle continues for several pages, each taking big hits and loses. That was until Captain Universe used Sword Vigor, which changed the fight and gave the Spider-verse the winning hand.
The solution to the problem was what started the saga to begin with-- a cloning machine used by Doctor Otto Octavius aka The Superior Spider-Man. This is where things got a little weird. They made the Inheritors into children, but who was going to raise them? Spider-Ma'am aka Aunt May. After the crisis is over, the enigma force leaves Miles. One by one each Spider-Man/Woman/Child etc returns back to its respective spider-verse. All seems normal on Earth 616... or does it?
Review
Before Spider-Geddon, I may have read a lot of Spider-Man books. I understood the concept of the story but that didn’t leave me any less confused at times. Do I feel someone can come in and read this book as a first-time reader– probably not? That should not take away from the story though. It’s a really well done saga.
Christos does a really good job at pulling readers in. At the end of each issue, there was a cliffhanger; last issue we were left off with Ben Reilly being sacrificed. Even if I wasn’t reviewing, I would have totally got the next issue to see the fate of Mr. Reilly.
This is the must-read Spider event of 2018.
Final Thoughts
Great saga. I really enjoyed the story even with my confusion. The ending could have gone many ways. I wasn't completely thrilled with the end, however, I was not disappointed either. I am not sure what I wanted the end to be, or it could be my sadness that the saga is over.
