Recap

ENTER SAND…GWEN?! Spider-Gwen meets the next cloned version of herself, and this time, it’s a combination of her and Sandman! What do these clones want with her though? Luckily, with the help of Reed Richards, Gwen is about to get some answers!

Review

Just when  Gwen is so close to catching a break, WHAM, her life is torpedoed by clones! But they’re not just her clones. They’re a mix of one of the Sinister Six and of her. There’s a combo no one expected since that weird comic about 616 Gwen and Norman Osborn. The less said about that, the better.

In true Spidey fashion, just when life looks up, something is waiting to ruin a Spider’s day. And in true superhero fashion, her good deeds do not go unpunished. It’s hard being all on your own. But it seems like this clone saga is getting interesting as Gwen and Gwen-Ock try to find Sand Gwen, who I feel should be called Sandy Gwen.

Okay. Full disclosure time; I thought the idea of a Gwen Stacy Clone Saga sounded bad. I am happy to be proven wrong. This is a unique take on the Clone Saga thus far that does not try to one-up the original. It’s just trying to tell a fun story, and it shows. Gwen-Ock is Gwen but isn’t, and her dual memories helped to form a unique personality. And Gwen’s relationships with all these different characters, from Mary Jane to young Reed Richards to Gwen-Ock, are unique, and each comes with its own visible baggage, questions, and worries.

Emily Kim brings a light tone and an intriguing story, one I cannot figure out the ending of. It is the right amount of quippy while maintaining an even tone. Even the quips aren’t there just for laughs; they serve an important purpose. T

Kei Zama’s art shines, and the coloring by Triona Farrell help bring a vibrant look to the comic. This very much feels like a team effort.

Final Thoughts

I'm having fun on this ride, and I hope you'll join me.  This is certainly a unique take on the Clone Saga thus far and I hope it continues this momentum.
