Star Wars Adventures #1: All Ages? All Awesome!

When you’re talking to some people about comics, the term “all-ages” can be a final nail in a coffin. To most hardcore comic fans, that term means “kids’ book”, and no self-respecting comic fan reads comic that are meant for kids, right? Nope. I’m only speaking for myself, but a good comic is a good comic, it doesn’t matter who people say who the audience should be. That leads up to this book. Authors Michael Moreci & Nick Brokenshire give us two really solid stories that can only take place in the Star Wars universe, one tale from the classic trilogy era and one from the sequel trilogy.

Both are good, but I honestly like the story about Rey better, the other is good, but it’s a story that we know backwards and forwards seen threw a different point of view. While that can be entertaining, I found this one to be average. Again, the first story about Rey is a nail-biter that has all the warmth, charm, fun, and action of a real Star Wars movie, and gives us a story that we haven’t quite seen before.

The artists in this issue are Nick Brokenshire and Ilias Kyriazis and there’s nobody better suited for these stories than them. Kyriazis  is straight from the Star Wars animated series, while Brokenshire goes a tad beyond that and adds some more detail into his art. Both are great, though. They both show a real commitment to their own style all the while stretching it just enough to know they easily can. It makes for a great stories, especially for Brokenshire, whose task with showing us another “camera angle” of one of Star Wars’ most iconic scenes.
