Review
Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest Star Wars show to receive the comic book adaption treatment. Rodney Barnes (Star Wars: Inquisitors ) takes over scribe duties for the series, previously done by Jodi Houser (Kenobi, Thrawn, and more).
*As this comic is an adaption of the live action show, this review will judge on hitting key story points.
The issue seems to hit the story beats in the same sequence as the show, Baylan and his apprentice rescuing Morgana, and so on ending with Ahsoka finding Sabine close to death following her lightsaber duel on Lothel.
Barnes and Steven Cummings does a good job capturing the interactions both in dialogue and staging it feels like the panels have been lifted right off the screen.
Where the art misses is the facial features and the perspectives of certain panels, especially those of wide shots of the characters. The facial artwork feels like a nitpick, not that they don’t look exactly like the actors, but that they seem to change between panels throughout the issue.
The perspective issues are few but standout and might take the reader briefly out of the story.
Overall this looks to be one of the stronger comic adaptions of a Star Wars show and hopefully it will continue as such.
Final Thoughts
Star Wars: Ahsoka #1 is want one would expect from an adaption of a show that has already been released. It will be interesting to see how Barnes paces the remaining story over the remaining issues.
