Review
Star Wars: Ewoks #4 completes Steve Orlando’s adventure on the moon of Endor as Wicket and friends take care of Tern Koyatta, the scout trooper Khu Fornot, the tracker/scavenger Koll Orvenk, and bounty hunters Zuckass and Foe-Elloem, who are searching for a cache of Imperial weapons to curry favor with Moff Adelhard (whose story is told in The Battle Of Jakku maxiseries that runs concurrent to this series and ends before things go south for Adelhard).
The four issue series is the perfect length to tell this story and allows plenty of page and panel space to develop these characters and the Ewoks such as Wicket, Meedro, and Asha, aka The Red Ghost. Orlando also does an excellent job of showing Koll Orvenk’s growth throughout the series as someone who is merely doing a job for a payday to a person who has some personal growth once Koyatta’s true background and scheme is revealed.
This has some iconic callback moments such as Wicket trying to control a speeder bike and the Gorax battling the AT-ST and Fornot seemingly having flashback to the first Battle of Endor when fighting Wicket and his friends. The series also digs deep into the animated series that followed Return Of The Jedi and further expands life on the moon of Endor. The Gorax, who first appeared in The Caravan of Courage movie also makes an appearance in the final issue making the nostalgic factor of the series complete and shows the love that Orlando has for the Legends film that continued the Ewoks story in the 80s.
The art and colorwork throughout the four issue series adds another layer to the story being told. Laura Braga & Álvaro López work seamlessly with each other and is brought to life by Fabela’s colorwork, giving both the characters and the world around them a feeling that encapsulates what the Star Wars universe should be.
Final Thoughts
Star Wars: Ewoks #4 completes the return to the moon of Endor that combines a well-written, well-paced story with art and colorwork that bring this story to a close, but with hopes that there are more Ewok-centric stories to be told in the future.
