Recap

The creative team that brought readers Star Wars: Inquisitors comes a new adventure set before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Less than satisfied with a settled life, HAN SOLO lands on the idea of reclaiming the Falcon and returning to a life of adventure. The problem is, he can't find it. After enlisting a less than enthusiastic CHEWBACCA, the duo embarks upon a quest to reclaim the greatest ship in the galaxy. Standing in their way are a laundry list of rogues who have staked a claim to the Millennium Falcon as well, like the villainous scoundrel who stole the Falcon, DUCAIN.

Review

Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon marks the return of the creative team of Rodney Barnes and Ramón Rosanas to the Star Wars universe, this time set before the events of Episode 7 – The Force Awakens. As seen in the film, Rey and Finn find the Falcon on Jakku, but how it got there is a story already told, but this series aims to tell Han’s story as he looks to recapture the sense of adventure of his former life.

Barnes sets the scene as Han relived one of his daring escapes before flash forwarding to the present day, as Solo is the owner of a race pod, a callback to his early years in Corellia, as seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story and the prequel novel Star Wars: Most Wanted. While not much is shown, hints are given that Ben has left and his relationship with Leia is strained, and getting the Falcon back is the only thing he can think of to reclaim his glory days.

After a failed attempt to locate the Falcon, Han goes to Kashyyyk to enlist Chewie who is living with his family Malla and Waroo (Lumpy) in a (another like scene in Skeleton Crew)callback to the Holiday Special. Rosanas does a great job with the encounter with the giant spider and the body language from Malla and Waroo as Chewie leaves on another adventure with Han.

In the final panels readers get a taste of Ducain who has stolen the Falcon from Han, hopefully readers will get more of history from being Maz’s janitor to his past adventures and connections to Han.

Final Thoughts

Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon #1 does a good job of bringing readers up to speed on Han's goings on prior to seeing him in The Force Awakings and  setting up the rest of the story that Barnes has to tell in this series.
