Review
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #10 find Kylo Ren returning to Mustafar after a whirlwind trip across the universe to the various planets that connect him to both the Skywalker legacy, his parents, and his past as a member of the Knights of Ren. The person pulling Kylo’s strings in Vanee, Darth Vader’s servant who has survived since Vader’s death.
On Tatooine, Kylo found himself the prisoner of Gardulla The Hutt, the original owner of Anakin and Shimi and one of the last members of the Hutt Council. After being captured Kylo begins to have visions of Vader, who when Kylo asks for help escaping, tells his grandson that doing things on his own made him who he was. After escaping capture Kylo destroys Gardulla’s palace using the full might of the First Order.
Vanee then leads Kylo to Naboo, the home of Padme and Palpatine, where he proceeds to declare himself King of Naboo, claiming his legacy. As he uses the army of the First Order to subjugation the people, while inserting himself as the leader of the rebels opposing the First Order, then after “successfully” repelling the occupation, kills the rebels.
Next on his “Galactic Being An A$$hole” journey, the First Order puts down an uprising on Corellia, with Kylo going rogue on Hux’s battle plan, further driving a wedge between the leadership of The First Order. Vanee the informs Kylo that he has located a Jedi who survived Order 66, and looking for a challenge, Kylo goes hunting them. Soule uses this to move the larger story forward as the former Jedi informs Kylo that Luke has joined the Force and is beyond the revenge he seeks.
After a “reunion” with the current leader of The Knights of Ren, still unsatisfied Kylo returns to Mustafar where he tells Vanee to quit toying with him. Vanee tells him about the caverns underneath Vader’s Castle, where he not only encounters his inner demons, but briefly is visited by Luke, which sets off Kylo.
In this sequences, and throughout the run so far, Soule has done a great job pulling from both established lore and events in the life of Ben Solo before his turn, to build the larger untold story.
Ross continues to nail the artwork along with Woodard’s colorwork set the tone for the story being it in the void of space, planetside, looking back into the past, be it from Vader’s perspective or through The Force.
Final Thoughts
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #10 continues to chronicle Kylo's journey as he attempts to kill his past and proceed on his Dark Side journey whilst being an @$$ to any who might stand in his way in a galaxy far, far, away.
