Announced in February, Marvel Comics will celebrate the anniversary of the beloved film by publishing five one-shots spotlighting its key characters, starting in May with Cassian Andor, who went on to headline the film’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Disney+ prequel series, Andor.

Comic Watch Reviews:

Returning to the grit and glory of a Rebellion on the brink of war, the all-new stories will be set just prior to the events of the film, revealing never-before-told backstories and adventures from this pivotal era.

Before the heist that shook the galaxy, a lone Rebel operative walks into danger.

Cassian Andor infiltrates the lawless maze of Kafrene, racing against troopers, bounty hunters and time itself in a tense espionage thriller.

Review

Star Wars: Rogue One – Cassian Andor #1 is the first of the special oneshot issues celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the prequel to the original trilogy.  Starting the specials off fleashing out Cassian Andor’s mission to the Ring of Kafrene was a no-brainer and Percy, no stranger to the Star Wars mythos, leads with a strong installment right of the gates ggoing a story that fits with the feature film and the stellar two season run of Andor on Disney.

In short, the issue tells the events leading up to Andor’s first scene in the movie where he learns from Tivik about the Death Star or “planet killer.” Percy deftly captures Cassian’s character to a tee, from his mannerisms, personality, and skills  Percy also nails the comedic moments in the exchanges between Andor and Kaytoo.

While the issue seems to end on a strange beat, it perfectly foreshadows where Cassian is first seen on the big screen. Luke Ross and Mike Atiyeh capture the feel of the story and Ross continues to be one of the premiere Star Wars comic arts.
