Review
Star Wars: The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1 not only expands the story of The Acolyte’s Wookie Jedi but also serves as a lead into the Fear Of The Jedi arc, the galaxy-spanning finale of Phase III of The High Republic era storytelling,
The issue is framed and begins with Master Yarzion on his deathbed and his padawan asking who will complete her training and journey toward knighthood. Scott, who has been an intricate part of exploring the High Republic era, goes back into the past to the destruction of the destruction of the Starlight Beacon, an event that has been explored in both the novels and comics. Then Padawan Yarzion who has lost his Master in the destruction, asks Jedi Master Elizar, another character who has been central to the High Republic era introduces the young one to Kelnacca who is there from Coruscant as part of the rescue mission.
As the dying Master recounts his experiences with his new Master, Kelnacca, who Scott shows is an “actions speak louder than words” Jedi. The meaning and the origin and significance of the tattoos Kelnacca has on his head are also explained as the story progresses, adding a sentimental layer to the story.
The overall story is one that new readers looking to learn more about the Wookie Jedi and those familiar with the High Republic era and Acolyte stories can enjoy.
Marika Cresta and Jim Campbell bring a bonus layer to the issue and capture Kelnacca is all his Wookie Jedi goodness on the comic page.
