Review
Star Wars: The High Republic #1 beginning of the third phase of this science fiction saga. This issue reconnects readers with Jedi Master Keene Trennis for a bombastic entrance of this latest arc.
Written by Cavan Scott there is a lot going on and with that comes a few challenges. The range of characters and locations can feel a bit overwhelming when it comes to the plot and pacing. Luckily Scott balances the plot with action well enough to catch readers up to speed.
The art and panel designs steal a lot of the show. Given this is a Star Wars series, there is a lot of creativity to be had with character and animal designs. This, combined with the action, make for cool moments of grandiose action. The art from Ario Anindito and Jim Towe, as well as the inks from Mark Morales and colors by Jim Campbell work well to the story, although some character designs are a bit too clean (some shadows aren’t quite as obvious making for a couple of flat looking images). This isn’t a major flaw and given how fast paced the issue is, it’s barely noticeable.
Final Thoughts
Fans of the series will be happy to see the explosive return and pleased with the art, particularly the space travel and the battles.
