Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #2
Reading this issue was such a treat. This has got everything that you want in a Star Wars comic, I’ll even go one step further and say that this has everything that you want in a Star Wars movie. You know how one of the things that makes The Mandalorian great is that it embraces SW continuity and it makes the story even better? Yeah, it’s like that. Author Charles Soule is firing on all cylinders here, and he’s not pulling any punches. Where other authors are a little trepidatious to overload some stories with too many moving parts and characters, Soule is able to jam-pack this issue with SO MUCH stuff, that it’s outrageous! And it all works!! Every. Single. Thing. From moments that will almost scare you to a couple of genuine laugh-out-loud panels, this issue is so good, people. What impressed me a lot here is that if you’re just reading War of the Bounty Hunters, great. It’s a really enjoyable issue. However, if you’re reading the other books that feature the War of the Bounty Hunters banners on them, you are going to get a lot more out of this story. You’re going to find out where people came from and how they hooked up and all this great other background info. I highly suggest you do that if you can.
Hey, let’s talk about artist Luke Ross! He’s been a favorite of mine for a long time and hey, he drew an Indiana Jones mini-series, the guys gotta be good, right? In this issue, he goes with a pretty simple style that totally works for the story. Sometimes artists tend to over-detail the Star Wars universe a little, but not Ross! His style makes it easy for the eye to move from place to place on the pages, and yet, your eyes naturally soak in everything in each panel. Look twice and I bet you’re gonna see some familiar faces. Now stop reading this and go read this comic book!
For the second consecutive month, an AWESOME issue!!! A really well-done chapter in this series that shows no signs of slowing down.
