Recap

Strange Skies Over East Berlin #2 is a vividly colorful visual journey deep into the psyche of our characters. This issue reads as if it were auditioning to become a thrilling new movie or miniseries and wins my enthusiastic endorsement.

Review

After having a perfect opening with its first issue, Strange Skies Over East Berlin #2 does not disappoint. Writer Jeff Loveness pulls his readers into deep questions concerning the morality and substance of his characters who build their careers and life on lies and subterfuge. His words play perfectly with the gorgeous illustrations to craft a hypnotic web that not only drowns the reader into the story but leaves them questioning themselves as well. While the pacing may seem a bit sluggish in terms of overall action, the comic and storyline itself is further enriched by Loveness taking his time to establish his characters and the overall atmosphere. While it plays as a fantastic supporting issue it is one that is best read with the eventual totality of the series in mind.

Estherren and Delpeche are again the stars of this series. The art and color choices are the driving force behind this issue and the dizzying effects of their implementation scream award winning. They make these pages seem positively animated on their own and I could easily see their work translating effortlessly to the big screen.

This series is definitely one to watch and one to buy. If you have the temperament to wade into this story slowly and love cliffhangers the individual issues are worth it. Otherwise it may be better for you to wait to gather them all for what promises to be a satisfying binge session.

Final Thoughts

Overall Strange Skies Over East Berlin #2 is a deeply satisfying artistic step forward in an emotionally driven psychological thriller.
