The downside of Task Force X is sometimes team members die, not that it’s any surprise, with a name like the Suicide Squad! But sometimes they come back, with a vengeance!

What You Need to Know:
Hack is a technopath that the Suicide Squad found in Direktor Karla’s Black Vault, (refer to the first 16 issues of Suicide Squad Rebirth for reference material) in their fight against The People, as she investigated she discovered a double agent in the Squad’s midst and was killed by a Squad member before she could reveal them as a traitor, Now she’s back, and trying to track down her killer!
What You’ll Find Out:
We open on the Squad returning from a semi-successful mission fighting Damage. Although initially they aren’t acknowledged eventually Waller greets them warmly, which they instantly and hilariously recognize as deception. Waller has never said a nice word in her life!
They pull in weapons drawn to an attack from a giant holographic projection of Hack. Hack reveals she preserved her consciousness within the mainframe of the computer, and as such she has access to all of Waller’s files, including all her precious secrets! Another thing Hack has access to is the Squad’s brain bombs!
Hack places a call to Waller, telling her she’s going to expose her for the monster she is. Waller shows a characteristic mix of flippancy and malevolence and resolves to blow up Belle Reve.

What just happened? (minor spoilers)
The idea of a Squad member coming back for revenge is a pretty heavily used one, it’s actually already happened twice since the start of Rebirth with Boomerang, although he didn’t come back for revenge so much as be a total dweeb, and again with Flag. Meh. Still, they won’t bring Mr. Peanut back for me…
It almost feels like this story might be a heavily veiled political thing? Maybe it’s just the title? I don’t know, maybe it’ll become clearer by the end of the arc. I have a solid feeling Hack is gonna take over the Wall via his brain computer, speaking of which how is Hack doing things like controlling Croc using his brain bomb? It’s a bomb, not a remote control. Minor nitpick. Not that the entertainment industry hasn’t done a ton of “it works cuz hacking” stretching, I’ll let it slide.
It was a little strange that Waller had bombs in Bell Reve all along and didn’t blow it the second Hack broke into the mainframe. Maybe she was too distracted by the birth of her granddaughter, which Hack also probably orchestrated via hacking. (that was a joke)
The art in this issue was pretty excellent, Hack, in particular, is really well drawn to be part of the prison, and I really liked what we saw of Croc’s rampage.
I am interested to see if this results in Boomerang dying a second time in Rebirth, or if he’ll weasel his way out of this one.

Final Thought:
Decent arc so far, but it feels like it’s building to one of two super predictable outcomes, which takes away from its impact overall. I’ll be following it through to the end, but I feel like I already know what happens. By the way, if you have the chance get the B covers by Andrea Sorrentino, they’re killer and seem like they’ll form a set once they’re done, downright framable!
