Pup, Pup, & Away finds Dick and Barbara dropping Haley (Bitewing) off with the Ma & Pa Kent so they can attend a wedding, no sooner than Haley arrive she is introduced to Kyrpto and the League of Super Pets: Ace The Bat-Hound, Jumpa the Kangaroo, Gleek, Bat-Cow, and the Green Lantern B’DG. Bite-Wing is drafted to help the team on their latest mission: free Streaky from The Menagerie Man, who has been capturing pets.

Seeing Bite-Wing interact with the other Super Pets was great and Fleecs captures her puppy-like qualities perfectly, making her a big slobbering ball of cuteness. There are plenty of easter eggs included in the artwork by Mike Norton, as Battlepug makes a cameo, making the story a company crossover. Other fun easter eggs include Topo, Penguin soldiers, Metomorpho’s dog, and Wendy and Marvin’s Wonder Dog, to name a few.

Overall, this is a fun little story that hopefully leads to more Super-Pets in the future.

A Jarro Is Born

Fans of Dark Knights Metal will be pleased to see the return of Jarro, the lesser-known and forgotten Robin.

Holden’s artwork work well with the story, which turns out to be a dream and reminiscent of art from the Dark Knight Metal story. The story also has a great Multiverse vibe to it which works in its favor

Daimian’s Pets In Refuge

For as tough as he likes to portray himself, this story by Michael Conrad reminds readers that Damian is a lover and collector of pets. In this story Conrad pulls some deep threads as readers learn what happened to the animals he has adopted over the years.

Conrad not only reintroduces Alfred Pennyworth the cat (named after Alfred), Titus. Jerry the Turkey (Li’l Gotham), Batcow, Goliath (DC You era), and Wiggles the Dragon, but also gives Damian a moment that is sure to make pet owners pause and think about their own pets.

This is a heartwarming story that also has some animals kicking butt and showing their loyalty to Damian, even though they were

Dex-Starr in The Little Cat

Dex-Starr, the feline Red Lantern gets a vignette in this anthology in fairytale form. This is not a typical Dex-Starr story as there is no blood-spitting or any rage-based battles.

An alien girl is left alone on her planet after everyone else fled because of the coming Red Beast (Dex-Starr?). While not a bad story, the story is thin and bounces around, but is bolstered by the artwork which adds to the fairytale-like feel of the story.

Who Woofs The Woofman

The final installment that bookends this anthology is one of the funniest spoofs of the classic work The Watchmen publshed. Doctor Manhattan, Rorschach, and the rest of Alan Moore’s characters go to the dogs in a good way. Starks captures the key moments of the story and perfectly distills the story into the newspaper cartoon format and adds comedic moments which add another layer to the overall presentation and story. Starks doesn’t shy away from the more “adult” moments of the story but does so tastefully making it accessible for general audiences.

This short adaption will leave ready begging for a full adaption in this manner.
