Review
The epic finale of the House of Brainiac event is here as the House of El battles the House of Brainiac without holding back. Who will win and who will see their house fall? Superman #15 is the epic conclusion of this event, pitting the Super family against Brainiac and his Brainiac Queen. In the chaotic cosmos of DC Comics, where galactic threats loom large and heroes rise to the challenge, the House of Brainiac event has emerged as a dazzling saga that shakes the very foundations of the universe with its ambitious storytelling and breathtaking artwork. The event highlights a prevalent theme in recent Superman comics: family. This action-packed issue is the perfect finale for the House of Brainiac event, with explosive battles, thought-provoking messages, and heartwarming reunions.
This issue is a fantastic finale of a cosmic familial event. At its core, the House of Brainiac event delves into themes of family, power, and the consequences of confusing the two. Brainiac’s quest for universal knowledge raises profound questions about the nature of belonging and the limits of mortal understanding. Yet, amidst the chaos, the House of El’s resilience and love for each other shine through, offering a beacon of hope in the face of overwhelming darkness. The relationships between the characters have been a standout throughout this event, and writer Joshua Williamson has done an exceptional job characterizing this cast. One of the greatest aspects of this issue is getting to see the relationship between Lex and Lena Luthor. We get to see the reformed Lex help save the world and this time for reasons that are not selfish. I think my only complaint about this event is that it did not need to span over 6 issues. A lot of the content feels like filler, and these last two issues are nearly identical. I think the event would be even more successful if each member of the Super family got an issue that focused on them. Despite this, I am excited that the Super family has gotten a large event that feels so core to the themes of Superman this year.
Rafa Sandoval’s artwork and Alejandro Sanchez’s coloring throughout the House of Brainiac event are nothing short of spectacular and this issue is no exception. Each panel bursts with cosmic energy, vibrant colors, and meticulous detail. From the haunting emptiness of Brainiac’s ship to the explosive battles between the Super family and Brainiac’s drones, every page is a visual feast that captures the grandeur and scale of the event. Their genius is highlighted as the visuals distinctly change to be more vibrant once the House of El returns home. Williamson’s impeccable writing mixed with the art by Sandoval and Sanchez has made this event exceptional for DC.
