!!!Spoiler Review!!!

What You Need to Know:
The son of Superman and the son of Batman have joined forces as one of the world’s finest young duos! Together they have taken on aliens, traveled to other planets and even faced off against Lex Luthor! Their fathers have even supplied them with their own headquarters to run their operation out of, and together they have battled alongside the younger generation including the Titans and Teen Titans against a Tim Drake Batman from the future.

Recently, Talia Al Ghul had an assassination contract out on Lois Lane. Together Robin and Superboy had to save Lois and stop Damian’s mom. Damian raised above his heritage and stopped his mother just in time to save the wife of Superman. These adventures have let the boys grow close to each other and at this point, I don’t even think Damian would want any other partner.

What You’ll Find Out:
The boys have decided to take a day off from patrol in order to give the HQ a good cleanup. Before the kids can even begin, Kid Amazo crashes into the underwater hideout causing the entire place to flood quickly.

Thinking quickly, Robin starts looking for their emergency rebreathers while Superboy goes one on one with Kid Amazo. The two seem pretty well matched but the entire place is already flooded and everyone is underwater at this point. Robin then launches an escape pod at the young Amazo giving them some time to escape the water. Superboy is passed out when Robin tries to swim them both to the surface. About the time Robin is ready to pass out; Superboy wakes up and attempts to fly them out of the water.

Before they can get out of the water Kid Amazo wraps a tentacle around Superboy and pulls him away causing Robin to freak out. Robin does everything he can to get back to Superboy when he realizes he is out of oxygen. He is too far from Superboy to save him and too far from the surface to survive as he starts to pass out a big metal arm reaches into the water and saves the young boy wonder.

The arm was attached to Cyborg who had gotten an alert from the League that the young duo was in trouble. Cyborg and Robin attempt to find Superboy while Kid Amazo has taken him to a hidden oil platform. Kid Amazo tells Superboy what had happened to him within Luthor’s lab, and how the child he originally was is no more and now he needs a different source of power.

After Superboy realizes that Kid Amazo pretty much killed the child that he originally was, Kid Amazo tells him that this is just the beginning when he reveals a disabled Justice League that he will absorb the powers from to be the ultimate super-being.

What Just Happened?
Tomasi wraps this series right back around by reintroducing the first villain that the boys had the pleasure of beating up. Taking the first villain of the series’ run and making the last arc of the series about the same villain is a great way to wrap up such a fun book. The kids have their usual quippy dialogue with each other that has had me coming back since issue #1. Kid Amazo is a great villain spawning from an Amazo story in the New 52. Taking an original Justice League villain and orchestrating a way to make a younger version for the sons of the heroes is a fun and unique way to give the Super-Sons their own villain roster. Kid Amazo is a deep character with a complex background and this arc is taking that even deeper. With the knowledge that Kid Amazo let Luthor experiment on his virus and that he killed the child he originally spawned in makes for an interesting ending where it’ll be cool to see if the villain rehabilitates or fights to the very end.

It felt like the art team was practicing for Aquaman with all the water in this issue. At some points, there was little to nothing going on in the background making for abysses of water all over the page. The kids’ proportions are done well by Barberi but again it seems that every character has a teardrop-shaped face. The children’s uniforms pop really nicely and Kid Amazo’s new armor sort of reminds me of Black Manta’s costume. I can’t say there is anything special about the art within this issue but it’s not hard to look at either. The very last page was a great shot of John freaking out over the disassembled league behind him and honestly highlights the art nicely from this issue.

Rating: 9/10
Final Thoughts: Super-Sons is ending next issue and for the last story Peter Tomasi decided to callback to his first Super Sons arc bringing back Kid Amazo for one last fight against the young team. This fight will be unlike any the boys have faced before as they may have to go against a Kid Amazo with the powers of the entire Justice League. Let’s hope the boys can stop arguing long enough to beat their first, and last villain one final time.
