Recap

It's Halloween at the Academy! That means homecoming is fast approaching! With the freshmen excited about getting in touch with their spooky sides, the faculty, again, grapples with the scary threat posed by their rogue student, the mysterious Red X. Luckily, this time, the Titans have help from some old friends who have, at long last, come home…

Review

As Halloween and Homecoming approaches for the academy that doesn’t mean that tours for the school get to wait. Sheridan takes the reader fast into a civilian tour that is quickly met with shock as they see Wally dropping his kids off.

Not too long after Sheridan delivers a surprising scene as Red X appears to reveal a different side of the Roy story to parents who are interested in bringing their children to the academy. I appreciate this issue showing the complexities of both sides of what happened between Wally and Roy. Why from the past this can influence current students to feel apprehensive about one day becoming a full time Titan.

Towards the end we find a group of the students gathered around with a stolen Dial-H ready to try their best for a seance just in time for halloween. I like this idea as they are trying to do a seance to speak to Roy’s spirit without understanding the giant ramifications it can bring for using Dial-H incorrectly. From a story perspective this unpredictability is exciting to see how their actions will affect them going forward. We get a shocking reveal of Wally peeking in to ask why he has a statue of him built. Will the students have to undo their mistake on their own or will the Titans have to help them fix their mistake?

Norton is wonderful at drawing each of the many titans in this large cast. I love the colors that Hi-Fi adds to Norton’s art. My favorite panel from this artistic duo would easily be the panel of Raven’s vision of a horrific future that is to come for the team.

Final Thoughts

I appreciate how this issue explores past actions of a Titan, while it continues to set up what is to come for the future of the team. On the surface we tend to usually see how issues affect the older members and teachers, and I appreciate how we dive into the curiousness of the students and what they'll do to get answers.
