Review
Here we are again talking about one of the best books on the shelves. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continue with an inspiring storyline and a creative team that displays a deep passion for what they put on the pages. For #106 things get switched up a bit and we see Ronda Pattison develop a script that continues the pace with the current infectious narrative set by Sophie Campbell.
From the opening panel, we treated by Nelson Daniel, whose art I feel takes a nod to the animation side of the turtles and fits right in with the series. Picking up from #105 we get a sense of the turtles’ new way of life is rolling down the road at a good speed and everyone is settling in. Campbell continues to inject a slice of life feel to the series that has become a magnificently refreshing calling card for the series.
I always try and leave elements of the story out of these reviews for a few reasons. I have to admit that when I saw the Mousers lurking on the pages I was just overcome with so much TMNT excitement that I pretty much jumped up and down with almost the same energy as when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 06. Yes, I am a complete TMNT nerd and this creative team enables me to continue such a way of life.
This creative team continues to capture the right mood and set the perfect tone the keeps this series one of the best on the shelves. The strength that this series continues to show with its fabulous transition into new worlds and situations is a prime example of not only exceptional storytelling but showcases how a creative team should operate.
Final Thoughts
This issue had me smiling from ear to ear with seeing the mousers, seeing Baxter Stockman start to show his true colors and take up a familiar helm. The family is starting to get back to normal, not to mention the new dojo looks great! We continue to be spoiled by Campbell, Pattison, Lee, and everyone else that touches this book. It is such a great time to be a turtles fan!
