Recap

The kids are safe and sound, the Slithery might not be as bad as we first thought, however, that leaves our dear friend Baxter, and that is never good.

Review

Just when it looks like the turtles and their friends might be able to start to slow down and figure out exactly what their direction will be, something will inevitably come along and muck it all up. Case in point, Baxter Stockman appears to be up to his old tricks, or maybe he’s just being Baxter. For decades we have laid witness to his diabolical schemes aimed at the turtle and anyone they care for.

So here we are with issue 108 and we are up and front with Baxter and start to get an idea (possibly) of what his next scheme will be. We already now that Hobs’ mutagen bomb reached farther than expected and has penetrated the sewers and now we have come to know that the Slithery was just trying to find a way out of the sewers. Now, was the Slithery just a clueless pawn in Baxter’s plan for the future? The end would suggest so.

One of the really cool twists to the story is when Alopex and Mona are talking about Mutant Town desperately needing leadership and they find themselves joking about setting up some type of government with Donny and Raph running for a position and having a leadership role within said government. Now, as long as I have been reading these books I will say this part of the story is something you should write down so we can reference this down the road because I am almost certain this is not the last time this will come up.

What can I say about this book and creative team that I haven’t said before? This issue is just another example of their cohesiveness and the amount of fun and passion they have when doing this book. Seeing the kids continues to be such a bright and honest addition to the book that adds a layer of great characters to the story. Even if the kids don’t manifest into long-lasting characters having them in the story have been such a good time you definitely would hate to see them go.

Final Thoughts

Campbell and Pattison continue to move this book along with such style, grace, and rabid passion that puts them on their own level against any other creator and title on the shelves today. Adding Nelson Daniel only compliments the team with his familiar style that is perfect for the turtles.
