SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
As time draws nearer giving way for The Last Ronin to appear life as we know it is moving along in Mutant Town. The phenomenal run of this creative team continues to inject a real-life feel into this series bringing an emotional touch that keeps not only loyal and devoted fans returning to each issue but serves as a friendly jumping on point for new fans.
While enjoying a night on the town with Alopex, Raph encounters a potential problem that can be chalked up to a misunderstanding. Alopex does her best to calm Raph but does not succeed. As the test of wills continues on we see a side of Raph that we don’t see too often…his softer side. Coming to the aide of his competitor we are reminded of the teachings of Master Splinter are just as strong as ever, however, will those teachers be at the forefront of his and Alopex’s decision making throughout the night?
Old Hob has decided to rear his ugly head and has put in play a plan that is sure to become the turtles’ greatest test since opening the dojo. At what lengths will Old Hob go and how successful he will be remains to be seen. He has done his fair share of damage to Mutant Town and its citizens, so we can only imagine what Sophie Campbell has in store going forward. Mix that with The Last Ronin right around the corner, this creative team will no doubt continue to amaze and astonish with every panel.
The pairing of Jodi Nishijima and Ronda Pattison come through magnificently from the first panel to the last. From facial features (the way Alopex and Raph look at each other on the motorcycle is pure magic) to the comfortableness the characters give off, and the brilliant tones and hues that do such an amazing job at being the proverbial icing on the cake, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better example of absolute talent. My only complaint about this issue is that we have to wait a whole month for issue #111.
Final Thoughts
With this review being spoiler-free, I wanted to touch on the fact that this team continues to produce one of the best books on the shelves. As I have said on numerous occasions in my reviews Sophie Campbell, Ronda Pattison, Jodi Nishijima, Shawn Lee, Tom Waltz, and Kevin Eastman have something so magical and beautiful that I can honestly say we are in the midst of excellence and in time this run will be looked at as not only a must for TMNT fans but a must for any discussions of creative teams that left their mark on the industry and their brand.
