TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #117
Recap
The concert of the century is over, the results are in, now all that is left is to restore order to the future and all will be ok. Right...right?
Review
Welcome back to another TMNT review! To no surprise to anybody, Campbell, Pattison, and Lee have once again came through and produced another great chapter in the IDW series. The writing, art, coloring, lettering, and layouts continue to consistently shoot for the moon and hit a bullseye every time. Now, with #117, there is a bit to not only unpack but this issue is a bit of a treasure hunt. We’re going to remain spoiler-free for this review so don’t worry, we’re not giving away the good stuff. I will say that Koya may or may not have been the star attraction at the concert. The panel I’m referring to is priceless and has Sophie’s name written all over it, but wait, there’s more!
What I’ve come to love about Sophie’s run on the series is we can expect some quick jabs that produce laughs, along with references from deep into the TMNT Universe. From the title of this review, from certain panels causing me to go back to my long boxes to dig for reference material, I think the proverbial sh*t is about to hit the fan. I’ve said a few times in past reviews leading up to #117 that the concert is important, however, Sophie throws curveballs like Sandy Koufax. What does that mean? That means you need to keep your arms and legs tucked in while the ride is in motion. That’s what that means!
As the story starts to wind down we see the family kind of start take some deep breaths and continue on with their lives before future Lita came for a visit. The truly heartwarming feature in this book is we are shown, love. Love is important, love is needed, and love is love. The panels I’m referring to are beautiful and speak volumes and are further proof that Sophie Campbell spills her soul onto these panels and the fandom is so much better because of it.
Final Thoughts
Thanks for reading! Writing the reviews for TMNT is really a highlight for me. I emphatically believe that Campbell, Pattison, and Lee are one of the best teams on the shelves of any ongoing series. This issue is just another layer of proof. This book is beautiful on many levels, with big reveals, bigger speculation, and...love. I hope you enjoyed this issue as much as I did.
