Review
As I get older, I believe more and more that the TMNT are the hardest-working heroes in comics. The Trinity, JSA, the Avengers, you name it! The heroes in a half shell have better crossovers than Allen Iverson in his prime. Yeah, I said it. The resume speaks for itself; the Flaming Carrot, Batman, Yosagi Yojimbo, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Batman, just to name a few. So, it was only a matter of time before we got two of pop culture’s giants going head to head. Two rabid fanbases are ready to see their tributes battle for reptilian supremacy. Let’s dig into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs Godzilla #1!
An explosively fun read that is filled with non-stop action that we have come to love and adore from the turtles, with the exciting build-up of preparing to go to battle with the world’s most feared kaijus. A Murderer’s Row of monsters (if you will). Fero Pe’s art continues to tell it’s own perfect story of turtles with rich detail, and action moves at breakneck pace. Luis Antonio Delgado’s color perfects the book’s atmosphere and keeps the tone of the comic. Delgado’s palette brings the panels to life like they were on the big screen. Tim Seeley continues to be the writing powerhouse he is, his take on Shredder, and how he freely navigates the turtles while respecting kaiju legend to make what is surely going to be one hell of a series.
Like other crossovers, both franchises exist in their own universe (no worries, you haven’t missed anything). It’s Tim Seeley and Fero Pe’s world, and they’re having a blast. They majestically blend years of lore from both fandoms, from the beloved TMNT cartoon to kaiju history, and fans will surely savor this like family night at a buffet.
Final Thoughts
Comics are fun! I’m not sure how you aren’t overcome with reptilian excitement over this massive crossover. From the creative team to the turtles, to kaiju, this book has something for everyone. Don’t miss this!
